We had a wet start to the week, that's for sure! I sent the kids home with an optional "math homework sheet". It is a family graphing activity. If the children complete it and return it tomorrow, they will receive a little treat from me Tuesday morning. Also, we practiced our blending skills with the following websites.

I hope your children will find some time to practice their blending skills with these fun websites!

Bus Safety
On Friday our class spent time learning about different aspects of bus safety. The children learned about the "Danger Zone", how to watch the bus driver for signals, what to do in potentially dangerous situations, and how to exit the bus in an emergency. I was so proud of our class for how well they listened to the bus drivers and how quickly they learned the rules. Here are a few pictures!
Bus safety is SO FUN!

A Super Week!

Have your children been pointing out all the Ss around your home? I hope so. They were reading environmental print {snack wrappers, newspaper articles, and even candy wrappers} to find the capital and lowercase Ss. As you can see from the pictures below we got our hands messy with shaving cream to practice making Ss. They loved it! We read the following books Smash Crash , Sylvie, and Something Special. We looked and listened for the S sounds and letters. We discussed how each of these books had different characters {trucks, a flamingo, and raccoons}. We are really working hard to make the letter/sound connection. I encourage you to help your child practice this skill. {Example: A says "aaa."}

Working Hard
On Friday we celebrated Constitution Day by making a flag art project! The students did a great job following directions to assemble these beautiful flags!

This week we learned about the letter Mm. We made M's with pipe cleaners, used markers to complete our work, marched and even munched on M&Ms.

We met Ms. Hart, our librarian on Friday. She ready us a silly story about a goldfish! :) The kids each checked out a book to bring home. Please return the books on Wednesday in their backpacks as we will check out new books on our regularly scheduled library day!

The kids are hard at work learning our classroom routines and procedures. This week we will be working on the letter Ss. See if your child can tell you the Zoo Phonics friend that goes with Ss...(hint it is Sammy Snake). Here is the signal poster to go with our Zoo Phonics. Zoo Phonics helps students associate the letter and it's sound. Each letter has an animal for example this week we learned that Missy Mouse says, "Mmm" and Sammy Snake will say, "Sss". See if your child can show you and of the animals/sounds.
I am looking forward to another great week ahead!
